Hello, everyone. I’m so excited to share some big news: I’ve just released a brand-new book, "If Only I Knew: The Radically Honest Guide to Fertility Treatment". I co-authored this book with Jules McDonald, a wonderful colleague with over 20 years of international experience in fertility patient care.
Why I Wrote This Book
Over the years, many of my patients have told me they wished they’d had more candid, detailed information at the very start of their fertility journey - everything from what IVF meds actually feel like to insights that go beyond the clinical steps of treatment. Those heartfelt conversations inspired “If Only I Knew.”
If you’re familiar with my Conceiving Conception Workbook, you know I’m a big believer in blending medical expertise with emotional and psychological guidance. “If Only I Knew” expands on that holistic approach but takes a deep dive into the practicalities of fertility treatment: test results, side effects, hidden hurdles, and the unexpected emotional twists and turns you may face.
What’s Inside “If Only I Knew”
In this new book, Jules and I shine a light on the unspoken realities of fertility care. We want you to feel informed, empowered, and truly active in your treatment decisions. Here’s a quick peek at what you’ll find:
• Straight Talk on Fertility Meds: Sometimes, it’s hard to know what’s normal or if certain side effects are worth bringing up to your doctor. We tackle these issues head-on, so you know exactly what questions to ask.
• Decoding Test Results: Lab reports can feel like hieroglyphics if no one walks you through them. We break them down in plain language, helping you see the bigger picture.
• Emotional Preparedness: Each chapter includes reflective moments to process the ups and downs - from the first injection to waiting for those crucial phone calls.
• Stories from the Frontlines: We've seen a lot after decades in the field (myself as a chartered psychologist and former fertility nurse, and Jules as a dedicated patient-care specialist). We share insights from real patients - always respectful and anonymised - to show how diverse and personal every fertility journey can be.
Collaborating with Jules McDonald
This book truly came to life thanks to Jules McDonald’s commitment and expertise. With a two-decade track record supporting individuals and couples, she’s someone I deeply respect. Her contributions ensure the perspective of compassionate patient care is woven into every chapter. Together, we’re aiming to arm you with the knowledge and confidence you need to weather whatever fertility treatment throws your way.
How It Complements Conceiving Conception
As many of you already know, my Conceiving Conception Workbook focuses on the mind-body connection, addressing the psychological and emotional components of fertility. “If Only I Knew” layers on the practical, medical side of the puzzle.
• The Conceiving Conception Workbook dives into psychological tools and introspection.
• If Only I Knew tackles test results, treatment protocols, and questions you should ask your medical team.
These two resources are designed to walk you through the internal and external aspects of fertility care. I hope that you’ll feel fully supported mentally, emotionally, and medically.
